An independent AU and NZ alternative to global platforms and one-off timing contractors, with a team that does the moving for you.

If slow payouts, rigid templates, distant support or questions about who owns your data have you looking around, Barefoot is the independent, AU and NZ alternative, with registration and timing in one system and a team that handles the move for you.

Most organisers stay on a platform they’ve outgrown because switching feels risky. In practice the risk is the other way: the dominant registration platforms are owned by a global shoe brand and treat a local event as a rounding error, payouts are slow, templates are rigid, and timing is a separate contractor who doesn’t share the data. Switching mid-calendar sounds daunting, but a good partner does the migration for you and times it around your events. The organisers who move usually wish they’d done it sooner.
Most organisers don’t switch everything at once. They switch the part that’s hurting — the entries system that holds their money and their data, or the timing setup that eats their budget every event. Start where it hurts.
Your entries, your money — held by someone else
Payouts you wait weeks for. Fee structures you didn’t choose.
Templates your event has to fit. And participant data flowing
into a global brand’s ecosystem, not yours.
Timing that costs more the further you go
Crew flights and accommodation. Disposable tags binned after
every event. Checkpoints on remote courses you simply can’t
reach. Timing shouldn’t scale with your postcode.
If you’re already with a provider, you don’t need a sales page — you need a straight answer on what’s different and what it takes to move. We’ve written an honest breakdown for each of the platforms organisers most often switch from: what transfers, what changes, what it costs, and where the other provider is genuinely the better fit.
Comparing Providers
What you need to know
ASICS-owned, global scale. What changes locally.

The end of a season, between editions, is the cleanest time to change registration platforms. Your old provider closes out the current event, and the new system opens fresh for the next one with no export or import. Mid-season switches work too, provided the new entry forms are built and live before the old ones close, so you don’t lose entries during the gap.
Most of the time is spent waiting, not working. Building event pages, entry forms, categories and pricing tiers in a new system is usually a short job. What stretches the timeline is getting a quote back, onboarding and learning the platform. Ask any provider for a firm setup window in writing before you commit, and start the conversation well before entries need to open.
They come across as data, not as new transactions. You export the participant list from your old platform, reformat it to the new system’s start-list template and import it, so entrants keep their place and don’t re-register or pay again. Money already collected stays with the old provider and is paid out under their existing terms. Tell entrants their details have moved, so the confirmation emails aren’t a surprise.
Check the contract you’re leaving before you budget anything. Registration platforms in endurance sport are typically paid per entry rather than through setup fees, so moving usually costs time rather than money. The exception is your current agreement — minimum terms, exclusivity clauses and exit fees can all apply. Read those terms first, then ask any new provider to put its full fee structure in writing before you commit.
Yes. Most registration platforms let you export a start list or connect a timing system through an API, so an independent timer can keep working your event. The catch is that every export and re-import is a chance for late entries to go missing or bib numbers to clash. If registration and timing sit in the same system, that step disappears and one team is accountable on race day.
Work with people who get the pace, pressure, and precision of endurance events and build platforms that match it.
