Registration built for trail, off-road and ultra events
Take entries the way trail and ultra events actually run, with multiple distances, wave starts, transfers and cut-offs handled cleanly.
Recognised bodies our trail and ultra registration platform has supported

Barefoot is the registration system for trail, off-road and ultra events across Australia and New Zealand. It handles multiple distances, staggered wave starts, entry transfers and cut-offs in one clean entry flow, so a complex field is simple to set up and manage.

The trail and ultra reality — how these events really run
Trail and ultra events break the assumptions road-race registration is built on. A single event often runs several distances off staggered waves, entrants swap between distances as training goes well or badly, and cut-offs and qualifying criteria matter in a way a 5k fun run never deals with. Add drop-bag logistics, mandatory-gear declarations and crew details, and the entry form itself is doing real work. Trail organisers need registration that bends to all of that instead of forcing an ultra into a road-race template.
Why our technology works
for trail and ultra
Waves to cut-offs, covered
Multiple distances, staggered wave starts, entry transfers and cut-offs handled in one clean entry flow.
Gear checks at entry
Capture the extras trail events need at entry, from mandatory-gear declarations to drop-bag and crew details.
Paid before race day
Same-day payouts and fees your way, so you control cash flow before the event.
Support that knows trail
Local support from a team that has stood on a trail start line, and Barefoot timing ready to connect when you need it.
Who it’s for?
Trail, ultra and off-road organisers run events road-race registration wasn’t built for.
You need multiple distances, waves, transfers, cut-offs and the ability to capture gear and crew details at entry.
Barefoot gives you an entry flow that fits the format, however complex the field.
Features
Entries built for the trail format
Manage multiple distances, staggered wave starts, entry transfers and cut-offs cleanly, so a complex field is simple to run.
Capture what trail events need
Collect mandatory-gear declarations, drop-bag choices, emergency contacts and crew details at entry, so nothing is chased later.
Distance transfers without the admin
Let entrants move up or down a distance within the rules you set, so a change of plan doesn’t become a manual job.
Your fees, money fast
Pass the booking fee on or absorb it, and get entry money into your account the same day rather than waiting weeks.
Timing ready when you are
Registration and timing share one system, so if you add Barefoot timing your entrant data flows straight through. See Trail & Ultra Timing for the timing side.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run multiple distances off one event?
Yes. Barefoot handles multiple distances, staggered waves, transfers and cut-offs in a single event.
Can entrants transfer between distances?
Yes. You set the rules, and entrants can move up or down a distance within them, without a manual job for you.
Can I capture mandatory gear and crew details at entry?
Yes. You can collect gear declarations, drop-bag choices, emergency contacts and crew details as part of registration.
Does registration connect to timing?
Yes, if you want it to. Registration and timing share one system, so adding Barefoot timing means your entry data flows straight through. The timing detail lives on the Trail & Ultra Timing page.
When do I actually get the entry money — before or after race day?
That depends on the platform, and it’s worth settling before you sign. Some providers hold entry revenue until after the event and withhold a reserve against refunds and chargebacks. Others pay out weekly, monthly, or as entries come in. For a trail or ultra event with permits, course marking and aid station supplies to fund months out, payout timing usually affects your cash flow more than the fee rate does.
What happens when the field caps out — waitlist or ballot?
Both work, and the right one depends on how your limit is set. Trail and ultra events on public land often run to a participant cap written into the land manager’s consent conditions, so entries close hard. A waitlist keeps demand visible and offers a place automatically when someone withdraws, within a claim window you set. A ballot suits events where demand outstrips places on opening day. Publish the rules before entries open.
Can entrants transfer, defer or change distance themselves?
On most current platforms, yes — and letting them do it themselves is the single biggest way to cut your inbox. You set the rules: what’s allowed, until when, and whether an admin fee applies. Trail and ultra events see high change rates across a long registration window, so distance downgrades, entrant-to-entrant transfers and deferrals to next year are worth enabling rather than handling by email. Publish the cut-off dates with your entry terms.
Does registration data flow straight into timing, or do I export it?
It depends on whether registration and timing come from the same system. Separate vendors mean exporting a participant file and importing it into timing software, then repeating that every time someone enters late, changes distance or withdraws. Each re-export is a chance for a bib mismatch or a missing entrant in the results. An integrated platform passes entries through without re-keying, which matters most on long courses with several checkpoints.
